Why A Professional Photography Studio?

Kayla SimmonsTaylor WasserMarissa SchiberAndria HesslerNatalie Taylor

The best part of being in the professional portrait business is the way people feel after John photographs them. He truly can find the real personality of his subjects and make them comfortable enough to relax and be themselves. When that happens the portraits turn out so much better than the person expects. That’s good for one’s self-esteem.

Your senior portraits should be more special than the last 11 year’s of school photographs and choosing a studio that will capture the images you want is probably the most important decision you and your parents can make. So, what should you look for? Well, a few things:

First, you should choose a PROFESSIONAL studio. In today’s environment, digital cameras can be purchased very easily and while most people love taking pictures, it does not make them a photographer. Your friend’s mom or your uncle who does it for fun doesn’t have the training to see how the light will fall on a person. Lighting can make a person look heavier or thinner, but knowing how to position the subject so that the light is the most flattering, takes training and not just over a weekend.

Another important factor, does the photographer’s style match the style that you like? If, you are not sure what studio you would like to go to then schedule an appointment to go to the studio and check out the work, the people, the camera room (as long as it isn’t being used for a photo shoot). That can tell you whether the personality of the studio is a good fit for you.

One of the biggest things to consider is pricing. There isn’t a studio or photographer that prices the same. Some price by having packages and while this is usually, the least expensive pricing, but not very flexible. Packages are cheapter because you are only dealing with a few poses. Discounts come on the duplicates. So during your last 11 years, you only had the choice of one pose and you get a lot of pictures for a pretty low price. Another thing to look at is the pricing complete? By this I mean, will you have to purchase more to display it, such as framing, artwork, anything that will be extra cost for you to take it home and enjoy.Ridgeway Portrait Design has been in the business for 21 years and throughout the years we have found that purchasing senior portraits is completely different than what you are used to doing. It is rare that a senior client will want less than 20 images and that’s on the low end. So, how do you purchase all of those poses, when a package will only include a few of those poses? Does the studio you are going to have photograph you have a lot of different options? At Ridgeway, there are products for all; wallet poses for the seniors, separate poses for mom and dad’s portrait and then their are those special people in your life that you want to share your images with…grandma and grandpa, Godparents, aunts and uncles… AND, the pricing includes everything. Framing is included on all wall portraits and collages and the frames are some cheap frames so that you have upgrade in order to have it look great in your home.

We understand that this can be very confusing and expensive, but it will be more expensive if you choose to pay someone who doesn’t do this for a living. If you don’t LOVE your portraits, then you paid too much. Make sure you do your homework. This isn’t an inexpensive project to just go to anyone who claims to be a photographer.

Also, Ridgeway Portrait Design guarantees all work. If you are not happy with the images, John will rephotograph you at no cost or give your session fee back (which ever you prefer). All finished images are guaranteed also. If you aren’t happy with something, it will be reprinted or corrected to your liking at no charge to you.

We want to show off a few images of seniors that have been photographed recently. We would love to have the opportunity to photography you so give us a call and find out if we are right for you.

Portraits of J. Iken & C. Gebhart

Ridgeway Portrait Design is so lucky to be able to photograph some of the greatest people and today we would like to share the some of the senior images of  Jen Iken and Chris Gebhart. The beautiful Jen attends Edwardsville High School and she was fun to photograph. We really liked her clothing choices. Chris attends Triad High School and we can say that we knew Chris since he was born. Cheryl’s sister, Lisa, married Chris Becherer of Troy and Chris B. was Chris Gebhart’s dad’s best man. The Gebhart wedding is where Lisa and Chris met. Weird, huh? Anyway, it was certainly a pleasure photographing Chris’ senior portraits. John has photographed him all through his childhood.

If you haven’t scheduled your senior photo session yet, browse around this site and maybe you’ll love what you see. Any questions?…we can answer them. Looking forward to meeting all of you who are going to have your portraits taken at the professional studio of Ridgeway Portrait Design.

Senior Portraits are ROCK’N at Ridgeway

Ridgeway Portrait Design is having fun. All available photo sessions times are booked until late August. I know, right? The entire Ridgeway team is hard at work making sure the experience from start to finish is the the most fun experience of your senior year.

We want to share a few images that we have been doing the last few weeks. Remember one thing. We are not the school photographer. You have made it to your senior year and there are more types of photography studios than what you have experienced the last 11 year. Maybe we can get a few of our seniors to come on here and tell you about their experience. John Ridgeway is photographing you; all of you. We all have different sides to our personalities…the fun you, the serious you, the quirky you, the you that wants to pretend they are someone else, the quite, you…you get the idea. We want to capture all of those personalities with a portfolio of images that are all you. Check us out and feel free to ask questions. We want your senior portrait experience at Ridgeway Portrait Design to be everything you want and expect and MORE.

Today’s featured seniors are both from Edwardsville High School. Emily Bliss and Brok Chasteen had their photo shoots a couple of weeks ago and their images are being finished up as we speak. We loved having both in the studio. Brok just cracks us up. He was a lot of fun and knows what he wants. Emily, we found out, has lived in several states, due to her dad being a football coach. We are hoping the best for the Edwardsville football team.

At the bottom of the photos, click on the word ‘slideshow’ to have it automatically change images and you can also click on ‘full screen’.

Ridgeway Portrait Design is excited to have a spokesmodel from Marquette High School. His name is Scott Faulkner and for those of you who know seniors in the Alton area that are looking for some different senior portraits, then tell them about Ridgeway. High School seniors are what Ridgeway is all about.

Style, Fun & Professional are three words that describe Ridgeway Portrait Design. John Ridgeway is all about making his subjects look the very best by knowing how to light the face for the most flattering view of the face, by knowing what he is doing so that he can concentrate on you to make you feel good and have fun. If you feel good and are having fun you will be yourself. That is when the best photographs are done.

We GUARANTEE that you will love your senior photos and if you don’t, Ridgeway will rephotograph you or give your money back if you just have the most aweful session ever!!! Haha! That has never happened, but sometimes maybe you don’t like the outfit you brought, but had to have photographs in it. Well, we will take care of that. We just want you to be happy. PROMISE!

Call to get more information or to schedule your session. Don’t wait too long; it may be September before you can get in. (No Kidding…We are pretty popular). :)

Take a look at Scott’s photographs and let us know what you think.

Can’t wait to meet you and photograph you. Every one of the Ridgeway team loves to make new friends.

Heather Hammett, Ridgeway SpokesModel

Ridgeway Portrait Design is excited to have Heather Hammett of Metro East Lutheran High Shool as a 2011 SpokesModel. She is the only model we have at MELH. Every year we have quite a few from this school, but now it’s nice to have someone who can give us the low down on what this school is like. Heather is definitely a busy girl, but she has cards that can save you $25 off the session of your choice. Be sure to ask her for one; you’ll need it when you schedule or by the latest, before you are photographed.
To learn more about Heather, read on. Enjoy her photographs and her video and find out what she plans to do after high school, what stresses her out and what her dream car is.
Ridgeway Portrait Design’s phone lines are open Monday through Friday from 9am – 5pm. If you need more information or want to book you senior session, call now. We have about a 5-6 week wait right now and the closer to school starting the harder it is to find a prime session time. The phone number is 618-288-9000.

Breann Shaffer, Ridgeway SpokesModel

Breann Shaffer, one of Ridgeway Portrait Design’s 2011 SpokesModels, attends Collinsville High School. Breann is on the Collinsville girl’s soccer team and is also, one of Ridgeway’s Collinsville SpokesModels. As you can see by Breann’s photographs she is beautiful. What makes Breann’s photos special is the clothing that she chose for her session. Her prom dress allowed for a very formal look, while the torn jeans work great for the cool, everyday, casual look.

Clothing variety is so important when thinking about your photo session. No one has just one look so bringing in clothing that allows you to express those different looks will give you much more variety. You know what they say: variety is the spice of life and we like the spice.

We want you to get to know the Ridgeway SpokesModels because, not only are they great people, but they all can save you an additional $25 off your Ridgeway senior photo session. All you have to do is ask them for one of their cards. Don’t know them? It’s ok; they are expecting people to ask for the card. That’s part of their job of being a Ridgeway model. Ridgeway SpokesModel, Marie Engeling

Ridgeway Portrait Design is introducing you to Collinsville SpokesModel, Marie Engeling. Marie has had her summer session so when you look at her photos the first 4 are from her test shoot and the rest are from her summer, senior photo session. Marie’s family owns a farm on Route 162 and she wanted some images on the farm and with the tractors. This is the type of thing that John loves to photograph; people in their own surroundings. Yes, we do go on location, but if you don’t have a location that you want to go to Ridgeway Portrait Design’s backlot is home to several sets. Just like on a movie set, we have developed sets like a beach with real sand, an old porch with old shutters and doors that photograph great and give a different type of look to portraits. We have a beautiful hammock that looks great with soft, summer sun dresses, or bright bold summer outfits. Most people know about our rusted pick-up truck that looks awesome with the rustic look of jean shorts, boots and a cowboy hat. Guys just look good on the truck set with casual clothing such as jeans and their favorite t-shirt. Great for the masculine feel that all guys like. The pergola gives a very elegant look with a fountain in the background,  big colums that support the beams above and a table and chairs that you can sit and have a cold drink while waiting for that best friend or best guy. No matter what you look you want, Ridgeway can probably give it to you without having to travel anywhere.

Don’t forget that Marie, along with all of our other spokesmodels, can save you an additional $25 off your session fee and you are helping them win prizes. So don’t forget to tell us that Marie referred you and we’ll take the $25 off the cost of your photo session. It’s so easy.

Check out some of the images of Marie’s senior photo session and tell us what you think. Everyone loves to hear compliments and Marie looks awesome.
